LASER CUT FRAMES
by
We've reduced the
number of wooden pieces from 17 to 8 and we've reduced the number of
holes you have to drill in a basic frame from 29 to 3.
Oh, sure, if you're doing a flat car, you have to drill the holes for the stake
pockets, but we've come up with a nifty stick-on template that makes it a
breeze to get the holes to line up just right.
We are initially releasing the frames in our standard gauge flat cars, but we hope to propagate them and
other laser cut parts throughout the line very soon. Watch for a new
40' OB Box and Excursion Gon.
By the way, I know you don't have to drill as many holes, but if you need a bit to drill the remaining holes, I
think well of the folks at Drill Bit City. You can get to
their site by clicking on the Navigation button on the left of this page.

Here
is our new 40' Standard Gauge Stock Car. Folks have been asking
for it and I've finally had time to design it. We found a clever way
to build the sides, I think you'll like it. Buy one and
see!

Here
is a new set of 30' Standard Gauge Box Cars. This is the Double
Sheathed version. They came about because one of our customers
said that he was modeling the civil war military Railroads. And, that the
40' cars were too big. He wanted 26' cars but said he'd settle for
30' Since we had the 30' frame in production, we put the box car on
top.
|
|

|
So,
now we have a new set of box cars. Not just the Double Sheathed
shown above, but also this 30' Standard Gauge Outside Braced Box
Car. We are also preparing an improved drawing for the DRGW
#0575 Standard Gauge Caboose that will show how to cut it down during
assembly to match the box cars.

Rayonier
#3 at the Camp Six Logging Museum in Point Defiance Park, Tacoma,
Washington is the prototype for our latest Standard Gauge Kit. A
really unique real live logging caboose!
|
|
|
Here
is the Narrow Gauge version of our
D&RGW #0575 30 foot
caboose kit. Like our Standard Gauge kit, this one is basswood with
Grandt Line and Tichy details and GL trucks, this kit includes Kadee
#714 couplers

Tank
Car Conversion Kit comes with comes with tank, and cheese blocks, so
that you can create a unique piece of rolling stock like this by
converting our 30' Standard or Narrow Gauge Flat. See
our "Built ups" page for another example of the use of this kit.
|
 |
The Kitchen/Bunk Conversion Kit works
best with the sheathed boxcar to
produce a kitchen or bunk car similar to those found on the D&RGW in
the 1950's. It could also be used with the outside braced boxcar
kit. Note: this kit contains the Grabs
& Stirrups Accessory kit to replace the ladders supplied in the
primary kit.

D&RGW
#0575
inspired this standard gauge version of the 30 foot caboose. Made of basswood with
Grandt Line and Tichy details and trucks, this kit also includes Kadee #5 couplers
|
 |
The
D&SNG Excursion Gondola is modeled after the car used on the Durango
& Silverton Narrow Gauge RR. This kit is also provided to the D&S for sale
in their gift shop. A decal letterboard is included in the kit.

Of
course, after we had produced a Narrow Gauge Flat, we just had to go
ahead and do the Box Cars to go along with it. Here is the 30'
Outside Braced (OB) Box car (HOn3).
|
 |
And
here is the companion 30' Double Sheathed (DS) Box car (HOn3).
|
 |
After
we designed the Box Cars, I got to thinking about combining part of a
DS Boxcar with the Gondola Conversion kit. Here's the result --
the Boom Car variation of our Boom Car/Work Caboose
Conversion Kit.
|
 |
This
is the Work Caboose variation. It just depends on where
you put the cabin.
|
 |
When
we started to produce box car kits, we decided to produce them in sets
of two. For each Outside Braced box car there is a Double
Sheathed car to match. This is our 40' Outside Brace (OB) Box
Car.
|
 |
And
here is the companion 40' Double Sheathed (DS) Box Car.
|
 |
Soon
after we introduced the Standard Gauge Flat, we found out that there
was also an interest in Narrow Gauge, so we designed our 30' Narrow
Gauge Flat Car.
|
 |
Well,
after we got to looking at the 40' flat, we thought about how useful
it would be to have a 30' Flat Car that could be used for a
frame for shorter cars like tank cars, log cars and what not.
|
 |
The
Gondola Conversion kit was the first conversion kit we
produced. The concept of these kits is to provide the
incremental parts necessary to convert one of our primary kits
into a different car. This one works with any of our flats.
|
 |
Our very first kit, the 40' Truss
Rod Frame Flat Car kit was introduced in 1992. It has served
as the foundation of ALL the other kits we have produced.

REM's Kits are "craftsman" kits that
don't require a craftsman to build. They are Bass wood with Grandt Line plastic detail
parts. Unlike some manufacturers, REM's provides trucks
and Kadee couplers. The cars are all constructed on a truss-rod style frame. They
are free lance design meaning that they are not specifically modeled after one particular
car, but they are typical of cars that may have been used between 1850 and 1950.
Standard Gauge Box Car bodies are 9-1/2' wide. Add another
6" overall to account for ladders, door channel, etc.
Walls are 9-3/4' high. Add a foot to roof peak. Overall length is
41' plus
4' for couplers (Kadee #5). The Standard Flat is 41' overall + 4' for
couplers and about 10' width including the stake pockets.
Narrow Gauge Box Car bodies are 7'6" wide plus
1-1/4' with appurtenances.
Walls are 7-1/2' high and roof peak is 8-1/4'. Overall body length is
31'.
Add about 3' overall knuckle to knuckle (Kadee #714). The Narrow Gauge Flat is
31' overall and 7' 9"
across the stake pockets. We believe the dimensions of the narrow gauge cars are appropriate for
most of the Colorado narrow gauge lines.
The accessory kits offered below may be used in combination with the
primary kits to create some of the other pictured cars.

The
Suspended Work Platform.
Perfect for window washers, bridge painters, and hard rock drillers
building your line through the mountains. This kit was created to
permit interesting detail with zero "footprint".
